This two-day desert tour connects Errachidia with the Sahara through the golden landscapes of southeastern Morocco: the Ziz Valley, Erfoud the capital of fossils, and the golden Erg Chebbi dunes around Merzouga. You ride a camel through the desert of Merzouga and spend a night in a camp (you can choose between a standard camp and a luxury camp). The distance between Errachidia and Merzouga is 125 km.
Every itinerary is fully customisable to suit your preferences and pace.
DAY 1: ERRACHIDIA -> ZIZ VALLEY -> ERFOUD -> MERZOUGA
We start your tour by picking you up at Moulay Ali Cherif Airport (Errachidia airport) or from your hotel in Errachidia, then travelling along the Ziz Valley. We stop at a panoramic viewpoint for fabulous pictures. Then we continue our journey to the Erg Chebbi dunes via Erfoud, the capital of fossils. Arriving at Merzouga, we’ll find an experienced camel man and camels waiting to carry us across the fabulous dunes of Merzouga, for around half an hour, to reach the camp. Spend the night with locals under the stars.
DAY 2: EXPLORE MERZOUGA DESERT -> ERRACHIDIA
We’ll start the second day with a delicious breakfast in your desert camp and then camel trek back to Merzouga town. After that, we start our explorative day of the Merzouga desert, driving through the desert in a 4×4 vehicle. We’ll also have an opportunity to visit a nomadic family close to the borders between Morocco and Algeria before we head to the village of dark-skinned people, originally slaves from Sudan, to listen to Gnaoua music and experience their lifestyle. In the evening, we head to Errachidia, dropping you off at the airport or your hotel.
