This full-day excursion takes you from Marrakech to the breezy coastal city of Essaouira, weaving in some of the region’s most characterful stops along the way: the Al Haouz plains, Chichaoua village, Sidi Mokhtar, the Argania tree forest, an Argan oil cooperative, and Essaouira’s fishing port, Medina, ramparts, and beach. You learn how the golden Argan oil is produced using traditional techniques, walk to the fishing port with its famous blue fishing boats, explore the art galleries scattered in the Medina, stroll the ramparts lined with cannons on the seaside, and enjoy a seafood lunch in the harbour stalls or at a local restaurant, before returning to Marrakech.
Every itinerary is fully customisable to suit your preferences and pace.
MARRAKECH -> HAOUZ PLAINS -> CHICHAOUA -> SIDI MOKHTAR -> ARGAN FOREST -> ESSAOUIRA -> MARRAKECH
Your Essaouira day trip starts from your hotel in Marrakech, heading to Essaouira at 08:30 am. Firstly, we drive along the Haouz plains to Chichaoua village, where you’ll stop for a cup of coffee before we continue to Sidi Mokhtar. On our way, you’ll cross the Argan trees forest, where you might spot some goats climbing the trees. Stop and take some photos before we carry on to Essaouira.
The first thing we do when we reach Essaouira is a visit to the harbor with its fishing port and old Portuguese fortifications. There you can still see medieval war cannons aligned in order, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Then continue to the Medina (old city) with its well-preserved fortification dating to the 18th century. The major landmark of the Medina is La Scala, which was built against foreign attacks from the sea. Next we continue to Bab Laalouj (one of the main gates of Essaouira), then to the Mellah, the old Jewish quarter.
Along the way, various art shops, galleries, souvenir shops, and thuya wood craft shops are aligned in order. Choose one of the local cafes for a delicious seafood lunch. After that, we head to a Kasbah that is famous for having served as a military bastion. If you are a beach lover, enjoy a walk along the sandy beach of Mogador; you can sunbathe while watching waterspouts amateurs kitesurfing or windsurfing. Finally, return to Marrakech in the late afternoon.
