This four-day tour is the best way to experience Morocco in a narrow time frame, travelling from Casablanca to Marrakech and weaving in some of the country’s most memorable settings: the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, the Hassan Tower and Mausoleum of Mohammed V in Rabat, Fes, Ifrane, the Middle Atlas cedar forest, the Ziz Valley, the golden Erg Chebbi dunes around Merzouga, Rissani, Todgha Gorge, the Dades Gorge, Ouarzazate, the kasbah of Aït Benhaddou, and the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass. You experience camel trekking across the Erg Chebbi dunes, watch an amazing sunset and sunrise over the giant sand dunes of Merzouga, sleep under a sky full of stars in the desert, enjoy Berber music around a campfire, watch Barbary monkeys in a cedar forest, and travel back in time exploring the ancient Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. The southern part of Morocco is filled with scenery and epic adventure, just waiting for your wanderlust.
Every itinerary is fully customisable to suit your preferences and pace.
DAY 1: CASABLANCA -> RABAT -> FES
Your tour starts in the morning with you being picked up from Mohammed V International Airport, your hotel, or anywhere you’re in Casablanca by one of our local tour guides.
On our first morning, we drive to the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, the largest Mosque in Morocco and the 7th largest globally. Then we go to Rabat to explore the Hassan Tower, the minaret of an incomplete mosque. Here you’ll also get to visit the Mausoleum of Mohammed V.
After having lunch in Rabat, we head to Fes. Tonight, you can have dinner in the Medina of Fes. Sleep in a beautiful Riad in the Medina.
Approximate driving distance/time: 331 km / 4 hours 17 minutes
DAY 2: FES -> IFRANE -> MIDDLE ATLAS MOUNTAINS -> ZIZ VALLEY -> MERZOUGA DESERT
After a delicious breakfast in your Riad, we leave Fes behind, driving to the Merzouga desert. Our first destination is Ifrane, a beautiful town in the Middle Atlas Mountains, often referred to as the Switzerland of Morocco. After a quick stop here, we carry on driving across the Middle Atlas Mountains. We stop in a cedar forest for a while to watch some rare Barbary macaques in the wild. Lunch is in a restaurant somewhere along the way. Then continue travelling to the desert via the Tizi N Telghemt and along the Ziz Valley.
Arrive at Merzouga town (a small village on the edge of Erg Chebbi Dunes) in the late afternoon. Here your camels and the guide are waiting to take you across the Sahara desert to your desert camp. On the way to your camp, you’ll stop on a high dune to watch a calm sunset over the giant sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. Then carry on the ride.
You’ll be greeted by a cup of tea once you arrive at the camp. Relax in your private tent before dinner time. After an appetizing dinner, you’ll get a seat around a campfire with Berbers. Listen to some Berber music and share the culture while looking up at a starry sky.
Approximate driving distance/time: 500 km / 7 hours 30 minutes
DAY 3: MERZOUGA -> RISSANI -> TODRA CANYON -> DADES GORGES
Today, an early wake-up is highly recommended to watch the golden fingers of sunlight light up the scene. Enjoy a yummy breakfast at your camp. Leave the camp either by camels again or by a 4×4 car.
If today is Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday, we can visit a traditional Moroccan souk in Rissani. Then drive to Tinghir. We stop at a panoramic view over palm trees and Berber villages. Continue driving along the Todra river until we reach the deep Todra Canyon. Enjoy a walk under these 300 meters high cliffs.
After that, we drive to our last destination today, the Dades Gorges. Here we visit an area that was at the bottom of the sea millions of years ago. The place contains great quantities of sediments. You’ll also get to enjoy a panoramic view of a snaky road before heading to your hotel.
Approximate driving distance/time: 310 km / 5 hours
DAY 4: DADES GORGES -> OUARZAZATE -> AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH -> HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS -> MARRAKECH
On the final day of your tour, we start our journey to Marrakech after a delightful breakfast in your hotel.
First, we drive to Ouarzazate via the city of Kalaat M’Gouna, which is known for its valley that gets full of roses during spring. In Ouarzazate, we drive to Atlas Studio (the world’s biggest film set) that you can visit (optional).
Second, we drive to the ancient Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a striking example of Morocco’s southern architecture. The fortified town was the setting for many famous films such as Prince of Persia, Lawrence of Arabia, The Mummy, and Gladiator. It even became the city of Yunkai in Game of Thrones.
Third, after exploring the Kasbah, we drive to Marrakech through the landscapes of the High Atlas Mountains and over the Tizi-N-Tichka pass, which reaches an altitude of 2260 meters (7415 ft) above sea level. We’ll have some stops along the way before we get to Marrakech. End your tour by dropping you off at your Riad in Marrakech.
Approximate driving distance/time: 353 km / 6 hours 30 minutes
